TRUCKING ACCIDENTS
A common misconception is that, other than the size of the vehicle, there is little difference between an accident involving two passenger vehicles and an accident involving a passenger vehicle and a Tractor-trailer Truck.

Trucking (18 Wheeler) Accidents

A common misconception is that, other than the size of the vehicle, there is little difference between an accident involving two passenger vehicles and an accident involving a passenger vehicle and a Tractor-trailer Truck.  Tucking accidents are enormously different than auto accidents.

The first way a trucking accident is different is in the degree of damage that can occur because of the size disparity between the vehicles.  Due to the large mass and momentum of 18 wheel collisions, injuries can often be catastrophic, or, in some cases, even fatal.  That is why it is critical to preserve the evidence and determine the cause of the crash.  We will respond immediately by collecting the driver’s logs, trucking company records, police reports, medical records, and, in many cases send a private investigator to interview witnesses and collect evidence, and an accident reconstruction expert to evaluate all factors that contributed to the accident.

The next way a trucking accident is different is in the way the claim is processed. Federal Law requires a tractor-trailer to have a minimum liability insurance coverage of $750,000.00. Because the coverage limits are much greater than an automobile and the complexity in prosecuting a truck accident, the insurance adjuster assigned to the claim will normally have much more experience than those assigned to auto accidents.  In addition, there are other federal regulations, such as driver’s logbooks and regular safety inspections, and technical data, like the truck’s internal computer, that can be used to help determine liability.  Rest assured, the truck driver will have an experienced insurance adjuster, an accident investigator and defense attorney at his disposal within minutes of the accident.
